‘House’ season finale filmed with Canon 5D Mark II: Digital Photography Review

A Canon 5D Mark II has become the first video-capable DSLR to film a whole episode of a US primetime series. Greg Yaitanes, director of FOX broadcasting company’s medical drama series ‘House’, used the camera, a selection of Canon’s prime lenses and, the 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses to shoot its season finale. Speaking via Twitter, he said that this was to achieve a shallow depth of field and a ‘richer look’. He also said he ‘feels it’s the future’.

This should be sweet! I am “this close” to picking up a Canon T1i very soon, which shoots HD video as well. So stoked.

Get some!

  1. I have admired Canon for some time. A number of months ago I feel that as a company it has gone off the boil. For a while their particularly camcorder quality was not what it used to be and IME, the quality of Canon’s camcorder manufacture was going downhill. HAVING SAID THAT, now I think they are the best even though they aren’t the cheapest camcorders.

    • I am not too familiar with Canon’s video cameras, but I know they make a quality photographic product! I am excited to take some time to try out the 1080 HD video capabilities of my new Canon EOS Rebel 500D! Thanks for commenting.
